Operation Desert Survivors
Strategic and mathematical cooperation exercise
- 6-120+
- 45-120 min. (as desired)
- English, Danish, LIVE subtitling and translation
Operation Desert Survivors is a strategic and mathematical cooperation exercise in which the teams fight for their survival. But this will prove to be very difficult, as you are not able to communicate with the other teams. It is going to be necessary to think outside of the box and work together in a bigger perspective. A good solution for one team can prove to have the opposite effect on the mission as a whole. By the help of strategy, math and cooperation the mission might be a success.
In our online meeting room, you will be greeted by our facilitator, who is also a desert guide, survival specialist and your personal help to complete the mission. The reason you need help is because you and your colleagues are stranded deep in the desert, and help will not arrive any time soon. Therefore, you need to survive until help arrives.
The participants are divided into camps with a joint well between them. Their task is to survive by inquiring for water from the well owner. However, if the well runs dry of water, all of the camps will die from thirst. Using math and strategy, the teams must acquire enough water to survive each round but not so much water that the well runs dry. The teams have no clue about how much water is left in the well, as the camps are unaware of each other’s strategy and plan for survival.
No one wants to just barely survive. So the camp with the most water left at the end, is the camp that will be named ‘The Best Desert Survivalists’.
Are you ready to take on the challenge with your colleagues?
The course of action in Operation Desert Survivors
1. We send a link
We will send you a link to the virtual meeting room well before we meet. It is easy for everyone to access. We will be ready by phone if there are any unexpected technical problems.
2. Strategic and mathematical exercise
Everyone meets virtually in our meeting room, and our desert guide introduces you to the game. The participants compete by using strategy and math to ensure that everyone completes the game. However, you want to be both greedy and smart if you want to win.
3. Mission complete
Survival in the desert is a tough battle, and even if everyone survives, only one team can win! Who will have the most water left?
A good solution for one team can prove to have the opposite effect on the mission as a whole
When everyone is present, the participants will be greeted by our facilitator, who is also your desert guide. The desert guide will introduce everyone to the mission and tell them what they have to do. This will take about 10 minutes and take place in our own Operation Desert Survivors setting.
After the introduction, the participants are divided into camps with a joint well between them. It is their mission to survive by inquiring water from the well without it drying out. But the teams have no clue about how much water there is left in the well and, at the same time, unaware of the other camp's strategy.
One round is a day in the desert, and in every round, our desert guide(s) rotate between the different breakout rooms and visit the teams to receive water requests. After every round, the teams gather in the main room, and the participants see with their own eyes if there is water in the well or not!
Depending on the duration, the terms will change along the way. For example, maybe the temperature will change, so the teams will need more water to stay alive!
When the mission is completed, everyone will be gathered again, and the camp with the most water left at the end will be named ‘The Best Desert Survivalists’. The winning team will receive a printable certificate after the game.
